Life As An Ex-Teacher

Unexpected surprise in class today

Bubble Tea

An Unexpected Surprise from a Student

Teaching is filled with its fair share of surprises, but some moments truly catch you off guard—in the best way possible. A little while ago, on an otherwise ordinary day, one of my students walked into the tuition center with a smile and an iced bubble tea in hand. It was an unexpected surprise when they said, “This is for you, teacher,” casually handing it over like it was no big deal.

But to me, it was a big deal.

That unexpected surprise wasn’t just a drink; it was a small gesture packed with appreciation and thoughtfulness. In the middle of our busy schedules—classes, assignments, and endless explanations of organic Chemistry—it was a reminder of the connection we share as teachers and students.

Receiving such an unexpected surprise made me pause for a moment. In a job that’s all about giving—time, knowledge, and energy—receiving something, especially so unexpectedly, feels deeply rewarding. It’s not about the bubble tea itself (though it was delicious!) but about what it represented.

It reminded me why I love teaching. It’s about the bonds we build, the trust students place in us, and the little ways they say, “Thank you.” That random act of kindness brightened my day more than my student probably realized.

It’s moments like these that make the challenges of teaching worth it. They remind us that our impact goes beyond lessons and exams. Sometimes, it’s about simply being a part of someone’s journey—and maybe sharing a bubble tea along the way as an unexpected surprise.

To my student: thank you for your thoughtfulness. It’s a small gesture that made a big difference.

That unexpected moment felt like Teacher’s Day came early LOL 🙂

To all teachers out there, hang in there, term 3 is halfway through!
