Tips For Understanding Chemistry
Tips for Studying Chemistry
Let’s face it, chemistry is not the easiest subject to master, same students say it’s the hardest LOL! It is mostly abstract concepts (think atoms and molecules) which you can’t see with your eyes. So here i will share with you all 3 tips for studying chemistry for both O and A level.
Tip
#1: Search for Youtube videos to help you visualize spatial ideas such as atomic orbitals or shape of molecules. There are many online schools like Khan academy which has teaching videos on a wide plethora of topics covering most academic subjects. For free 🙂
#2: Ask your teacher if there’s any suitable analogies to help you understand the concept e.g. making Subway sandwich for understanding rate-determing step. Get them to form a processing chain to make sandwiches. Then assign each one different tasks with varying difficulties. E.g. first student to slice the bread into two, second student to spread the sauce, third student to put the ingredients and wrap it up nicely. They will soon find the third student is the “rate-determining step” aka the slowest step. 🙂 I personally like this second tip for studying chemistry the best 🙂
#3: Play with physical models such as those by Molymod, see image below. By using models, such as ball-and-stick kits or molecular structure kits, students can visualize atoms and the bonds connecting them.

These models reveal how atoms share or transfer electrons to form bonds, showing angles and spatial arrangements that may be hard to imagine. Physical models are valuable tools in understanding chemical bonding, making abstract concepts more tangible and understandable.
