Looking Back at 2018: Writing My First H2 Chemistry Practical Book
In 2018, I embarked on an ambitious journey—writing the first H2 Chemistry Practical Book. At the time, there was a glaring gap in the market, especially for private candidates who struggled to find reliable resources for their practical exams. I decided to fill that gap, not fully realizing the challenge I was about to take on.
Juggling between proof-reading drafts and building materials for my tuition centre wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. I often found myself burning the midnight oil, tweaking the wording of an experiment or double-checking data tables. Every page demanded my focus, as I wanted the book to be more than just a collection of practical questions—I wanted it to be a lifeline for students navigating the often-daunting world of Chemistry practicals.
When the book was finally published, I felt a mix of pride and relief. I had poured my heart into creating something that could truly make a difference. The positive reception made the sleepless nights worth it. Hearing that school teachers were recommending the book to their students was humbling—it was a moment where I realized my work had extended beyond my tuition centre, impacting a larger audience.
Looking back, writing the H2 Chemistry Practical Book marked a significant milestone in my growth as an educator. It taught me the importance of perseverance, attention to detail, and the value of creating something meaningful for students.
That book wasn’t just a product; it was a reflection of my commitment to making Chemistry accessible to all. And while it may have been my first, it certainly won’t be my last attempt at creating resources to support students on their academic journeys. (update: I’ve since published another two other assessment books)
Please share if you know of anyone who might benefit from this book, thanks in advance!
