Throwback to 2017: My First Glass Door Sticker

In 2017, armed with big dreams and a Canva account, I designed my very first glass door sticker for Mr Khemistry. The theme? Showcasing my credentials to the world—or at least to anyone walking past Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.

It was equal parts ambition and overkill. My qualifications were proudly displayed like a résumé on the glass, complete with bold fonts that screamed, “This is the guy who’ll help you ace Chemistry!”. Looking back, I wonder if I was trying to impress students or their parents (spoiler: it was both).

The result? A mix of pride, awkwardness, and a fair bit of comedy. It certainly turned heads. Some students joked that the sticker looked like an ad for an award show. While others sheepishly admitted they Googled me before their first lesson. Back then, i don’t suppose they would have found anything significant as i just started the centre.

But here’s the thing: that sticker marked the start of something special. It turned my small unit under the escalator into more than just a room—it became my brand’s first impression. Sure, it wasn’t perfect (note to self: less text, more design). But it told my story and said, “Hey, I’m serious about helping you succeed.”

Now, years later, I’ve refined my branding. But that first glass door sticker will always remind me of where I started—nervous, excited, and determined to make a difference.

Sometimes, it’s those early, imperfect steps that lay the foundation for something great. To my 2017 self: you did okay. To all my students: thank you for walking through that door and trusting me with your Chemistry academic journey. I hope i have helped you like Chemistry a little bit more 🙂
